1388 GEORGETOWN
A Little History
It all begins with an idea. 1388 Georgetown was created through a brainstorming ‘discovery’ activity between our founders, Bintou and Rod. Bintou hails from The Gambia and Rod from Guyana and we quickly recognized our mutuality ranging from our homelands, passions, birthdays and cities.
Let’s start with the breakdown of 1388.
1- This number represents the ONE YEAR apart of The Gambia (1965) and Guyana’s (1966) Independence.
3- Three symbolizes the amount of months the founders birthdays are apart; Bintou (July), Rod (October).
88- Stands for the year both founders were born
And now onto the word:
Georgetown, nicknamed “Garden City of the Caribbean”, was named in honor of King George II on April 29th, 1812 and named Guyana’s capital.
While researching the history of The Gambia, Rod noticed there once was a town called Georgetown until 1995 when the name was changed to Janjanbureh or Jangjangbureh.
